Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani laid the foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam – on January 17, 2015 at Gambiram village, about 25 km from Visakhapatnam.
Speaking on the occasion, Irani said IIM-Bangalore, established in 1973, would act as mentor for IIM-Visakhapatnam. This is the 14th IIM in the country.
“It would take a few years for the campus to be ready and in the meantime classes will be conducted from Andhra University from the 2015-16 academic year,” the minister said.
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam also known as IIM Vizag, is a public business school located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is one of the nineteen Indian Institutes of Management. The institution start’s the first batch of its Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management from August 2015. The institute has started groundwork for its activities under the guidance and mentorship of IIM Bangalore, one of the top institutes of management in India and the Asia-Pacific. IIM-V to begin with, classes will start at the Andhra Bank School of Business on Andhra University campus, till it moves to its own campus at Gambheeram, Vizag in about 3 years time.
The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) is a two year, regular, full-time residential programme. Admission to the PGP course of IIM Vizag is conducted each year through the Common Admission Test (CAT) Its main objective is to develop young men and women into competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, proceeding leadership and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of the larger society.
