A little background of what happened with me.

I have just assembled a new desktop PC for myself with configuration of 8GB RAM, i7 Processor, 3TB HDD. The point to note here is in normal formating system, your operating system is not going to let you use more than 2TB HDD. I was not knowing this before I bought this hardwares. I came to know only after I installed it and checked the size of HDD after that. I found that there is another 746GB undetected unallocated space which I was unable to use in any way.

Then I started searching for solution on internet how can I use full 3TB space. There are n number or guides to come over this issue. Many have succeeded with thos solutions too. But it was my bad luck. None of the method worked for me. I had followed correct steps, eventhough after following step by step method suggested, at some point, my system was not acting as per instruction. I was dissapointed completely.

It took almost more than 6 month where I was looking for solution everyday, asking some of computer experts available in my local area and everybody failed to do that for m. I was by then filing up spaces in my PC by downloading movies, videos and other stuffs from internet. By the time I decided to go for a big blow to my PC, there were around 500GB data available in my PC. This time I decided to do it my way. Then I transferred all my data to my laptop and prepared for a clean installation.

This time it was a success.

Now let me tell you what I have done exactly to fix the long pending issue hoping this may come handy in your way if you are in a frustration situation like I was.

Keep the following things ready with you:

  1. A pen drive of size 4GB or more
  2. Operating system Windows 7 / Windows 8 (as per your choice) (I tried Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)
  3. An Windows Bootable Image Creator software
  4. A software for making Bootable USB drive

5 Step GPT Installation Success Story

Step 1: First install the “Windows Bootable Image Creator” software and create an ISO image file of the operating system. It may take around 2 to 5 minutes time and save it to any place in your hard drive.

Step 2: Attach your pen drive to your PC.

Step 3: Then install Bootable USB Software and open it. It will detect the pen drive by default and show on top box in Device option. Then click the dropdown from Partition scheme and target system type and select GPT partition scheme for UEFI. Then come to ISO Image and click the CD icon right to it. It will open the browsing window from there you need to select the ISO image file you have just created before. Then click START. It will now show you the progress and make a Bootable USB Drive for you.

Step 4. Once it is ready, restart your PC, go to BIOS and change the Boot Priority to USB and install OS and by default it will be GPT partition. You do not need to hammer your head to any other technicality.

Step 5. Once the installation is complete you can go to Disk Management and check the disk volume to be GPT.

Congrats, now you are enjoying your full 3TB or 4TB HDD without any hitch.

Note: Go and check the Windows Activation Status and if you see it is not activated, then go and try out some Windows Activator or try with some free keys. If you do not succeeed then come back and read my next article “How to activate Windows 7 / Windows 8 in GPT Disk?

I have not included any images related to it as I am in a hurry. Will add it later. Thanks
